Your Fitness Regime: Tips For Staying Motivated

How many times have you started a fitness program and then quit? One? Twice? Too many times to count? Don’t worry, it happens to all of us. Many people start fitness regimes and do well to start with, but then after a few weeks start to feel bored and have little motivation to continue.

It can be difficult to keep a fitness regime up, especially if you are not getting the results that you want. However, there are plenty of ways you can keep yourself motivated and on track with your fitness regime.

Set goals

When you start a new fitness regime, start off by setting yourself goals. Start off with simple, short-term goals, such as being able to run a mile, and then progress to longer term goals.

Ensure that you make your goals realistic and easily achievable. Otherwise, you may feel discouraged and end up giving up. Start off by setting a few goals for your first week that are easy to hit, as this will encourage and motivate you to continue.

Make it fun

Exercise should be fun and enjoyable; that is why it is important to find sports and activities that you enjoy. If you don’t enjoy your workouts, then it might be a good idea to try something different instead.

For instance, if you dislike exercising on your own, join a football league or netball team and get involved in playing team sports instead. Or, if intense sports aren’t for you, try out something a little different, such as  horse riding or dancing. Remember, exercise should not be dreaded; it should be something fun that you enjoy and look forward to.

Make exercise part of your daily routine

While you may have a busy lifestyle, and it might be hard to find time to exercise, don’t make excuses. Instead, make time to exercise.

Every Sunday night sit down and create a fitness schedule for the week, as this will help you to find time to fit exercise in. Create small time slots throughout the week for exercise, and find different sports that fit in with the period available. For example, 20 minutes might be too short for a run, but it is perfect for doing some yoga.

Make exercise a social event

Instead of working out on your own, join forces with friends and neighbours and workout together. Not only will working out with friends turn exercise into a social time, it will also help to keep you motivated.

Reward yourself

As a reward for all your hard work, now and then, take some time out and reward yourself. Have a relaxing bubble bath, splash out on a new piece of clothing or buy yourself something new for the home.

Rewarding yourself is important as it gives you praise for all the hard work you have been doing.
